"My pictures came out of friendships with the musicians. I don't think any of them ever felt they were turning up for a "shoot" with a "photographer". I was just a friend and we would arrange to meet, and I would have my camera with me and would take pictures as we hung out. Although I eventually earned my living from it, I somehow never thought of it as a job. I was just doing what I enjoyed doing, and getting paid for it"
